Temporary Resident / Protected Person Status
Did you have Canadian temporary resident status or were you a protected person within the 5-year window before becoming a PR?
Each day physically present in Canada as a temporary resident or protected person before PR counts as ยฝ day, up to a maximum credit of 365 days.
โš ๏ธ Important: Work/study permits held while a refugee claim or PRRA was being assessed do not grant temporary resident status. Only time after a positive Protected Person decision counts.

โš ๏ธ Time spent serving a sentence cannot be counted towards physical presence.

๐Ÿ“Œ How days are counted
  • Any part of a day physically in Canada = 1 full day.
  • The day you leave counts as a day in Canada.
  • The day you return also counts as a day in Canada.
Only full days between departure and return (exclusive of both) are absent days.
